4.25.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 8th Jun 2009

Ballot Box

Liberal Democrats in Sheffield have thanked voters after celebrating seeing their share of the vote increase in last week's European Elections. In stark contrast the Labour Party vote collapsed by over 9%, a much greater decline than many other Yorkshire areas including Leeds, York and Kirklees. In addition the Tory share of the vote saw a decrease in Sheffield and the Green Party also failed to make an impact after being beaten into fifth place.

Snapshot of results for Sheffield:-

Labour - 23.2% (-9.1%)

Liberal Democrats - 19.3% (+0.8%)

UKIP - 14.4 (+0.9%)

Conservative - 13.9% (-0.8%)

Green - 11.4% (+4%)

BNP - 10% (+1.8%)
