On the news that Labour have chosen their candidate to fight Sheffield Central Cllr Paul Scriven, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Sheffield Central, said: - "I am pleased that we now know who the Labour Candidate will be. However, it is clear from talking to many people in the new Sheffield Central seat it is not just a change of face they want for them and their families but also a change of policy. Paul Blomfield is tied to the Brown /Blair project and all the policies that have let down so many people in Sheffield Central.

"He has been chair of the district Labour party for ten years and actively supported the policies that have seen the gap between the rich and the poor widen, the cuts to local NHS services and the insult of a 75p rise a few years ago to our pensioners. Change is needed , but a change of policy not just a change of face, and that is why I am pleased to be the Liberal Democrat candidate in Sheffield Central offering a positive and fresh vision to local people.".
